In summer 2019, Hurtigruten launched the world’s first hybrid-powered passenger cruise ship, MS Roald Amundsen. This state-of-the-art vessel features new and environmentally sustainable hybrid technology that will reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The second hybrid-powered ship, MS Fridtjof Nansen was delivered in early 2020.
Hurtigruten is now in the process of converting four older vessels to hybrid propulsion. The technology, in combination with the construction of the hull and effective use of electricity on board, will reduce emissions from the ships by over 20%.
Hurtigruten also has an education programme for guests, with the aim to transform them into ambassadors after every voyage through active engagement in the culture’s visited, the ecosystems explored, and the consequences of climate change.
